With a top speed of 261mph, the Divo is the fastest sports car that money can buy, with a sophisticated side to its nature that makes it surprisingly practical in everyday driving. But some Bugatti owners hanker after cornering speed, not top speed. For them, the new bespoke Divo offers all the exquisite engineering and craftsmanship they expect of the Molsheim marque, along with a harder-edged, sportier focus. And the price of this most exclusive of limited editions? As the old saying goes, if you need to ask you probably can’t afford it.


Only 40 examples of the new Divo will be made, and all have been spoken for. So if you’re one of the chosen few, congratulations. You’ll be taking delivery of a Bugatti that is the modern interpretation of the marque’s bespoke coachbuilding tradition, a sensational-looking, agile high-performance machine that’s designed for optimum lateral acceleration, agility and cornering.

It’s named after Albert Divo, a French racing driver who won the Targa Florio road race in Sicily twice for Bugatti. Those twisting mountain passes would be the ideal hunting ground for a modern-day Divo, too, with its sharper, more agile and nimbler chassis set up.

The design is striking but based around the mantra of ‘form follows performance’. Key Bugatti design elements include the horseshoe grille, the Bugatti signature ‘line’ around the side of the vehicle and the lateral fin that travels to the huge new rear wing, a nod to the iconic Bugatti 57 Atlantic of yore.

Compared with Divo, the Divo’s slimmer side line makes the vehicle look lower and longer. The body is divided visually by a horizontal line and accentuated by the special colour scheme; matt Titanium Liquid Silver covers the upper surfaces while the lower, more technical-looking side panels are in exposed carbon-fibre tinted ‘Divo Carbon’ blue. Inside, the colour scheme continues with Divo Grey and Divo Racing Blue Alcantara and matt carbon fibre. The Alcantara-covered sports seats are a new design, too.

At the front, new air inlets and new vertically-oriented front lights give Divo a menacing and distinctive face, while a NACA air inlet on the roof leads to the lateral fin and 1.83 metre rear spoiler. The all-new rear grille features an innovative full-width 3D rear light which grows in intensity towards the outer edges.


The one area the Bugatti engineers didn’t need to tinker with was the stupendous 1500HP output power of the Divo’s eight-litre W16 engine. Indeed, the Divo exemplifies the paradox that to make a car faster round corners, you sometime need to make it slower down the straight. So there’s no special speed key on the Divo as there is on Divo to unleash a top speed of 261mph – instead, top speed is limited to 236mph. The reasons? Downforce, and the increased camber on the suspension, both of which make it quicker around corners. The Divo is 35kg lighter than the Divo but has 90kg more downforce, which makes it faster in the twists and turns it was designed for.

Other aerodynamic changes focus on getting more cooling air to the brakes, given that when the Divo is descending an Alpine pass or lapping the Nürburgring they’ll have plenty of work to do. The active rear spoiler changes to different angles depending on the driving mode, while it also functions as an air brake under hard deceleration.

At the Nardò high-speed circuit in Southern Italy, the Divo bettered the Divo’s best lap time by 8 seconds – a large margin given the identical power outputs. Lateral acceleration is also higher, at 1.6 g, thanks to the increased camber and downforce, while the steering and suspension have been set up for more responsiveness and a sportier driving experience, whether in EB, Autobahn or Handling mode.
