Levante, the first SUV of the Maserati range. Versatile and capable, it’s the ultimate combination of off-road ability with on-road style and performance.
The Levante’s profile is streamlined, with a coupé-like tapered back window and traditional Maserati signatures like the triple vents on the front wings, trapezoidal C-pillar and distinctive Saetta lightning-bolt logo.
At the front there’s the familiar Maserati face; two narrow, frowning headlamps tapering towards an assertive grille with vertical bars and central Maserati trident. This ensures the rear-view mirror message is loud and clear for any lesser vehicles dawdling ahead in the overtaking lane.
Inside you’ll find traditional Maserati craftsmanship and comfort all the way. Driver and passengers are cosseted in premium leather, with a choice of fine wood veneers, the option of contrast stitching and a top-of-the-range Zegna silk version for the ultimate in luxury. The rear seat splits asymmetrically for carrying long loads.
Technology is all you could ask; there’s an 8.4″ Maserati Touch Control screen for navigation, information and entertainment, while all the controls fall easily to hand. Options include concert-hall standard audio from Harman Kardon or Bowers & Wilkins.
All Maserati vehicles promise the highest standards of sporting luxury, and naturally, the Levante is no exception. The Levante GranLusso, raises the luxurious profile of this commanding yet elegant SUV even higher, whilst the Gransport trim celebrates the race-bred performance of the Levante.
The Levante’s Q4 intelligent all-wheel drive system and advanced active air suspension offer five ride heights and six levels of capability and comfort, more than enough for the light off-roading that most owners would require. More to the point for many, it also delivers delightfully responsive on-road handling. 50:50 weight distribution and Skyhook continuous damping gives the Levante truly sporting performance, worthy of the iconic Trident badge.
The Levante breaks with Maserati tradition in another way, too; it is only offered in the UK with 3.0 diesel power and eight-speed automatic transmission. But rest assured; this is no ordinary diesel. The 3.0 litre V6 diesel produces 275 bhp, delivering 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds, a top speed of 142mph and useful combined cycle fuel economy of 39.2 mpg. Maximum torque – a better measure of real-world performance – is an impressive 600Nm, and the engine note is as smooth and sonorous as you could wish. In short, the Levante looks and performs like a blue-blood Maserati, while offering more load carrying and off-road versatility than any Maserati before it.
